Home Affairs and Culture Minister Dr Obert Mpofu refused to answer questions on the missing $15 billion from diamond revenue when he appeared before the Parliamentary Portfolio Committee on Mines and Energy today (Thursday).

He accused the committee’s chairperson Mr Themba Mliswa of being conflicted as he had come to his home over the issue.

Earlier, Mr Lovemore Kurotwi , the former director of Canadile Mining told the committee that Dr Mpofu had requested a $10 million bribe from him, while ZMDC had confiscated $10.6 million and held on to $1.7 million carats when they shut him out in 2009.

When told to elaborate on the so called visit, the Minister Mpofu refused to shade more light.

Parliamentarians weighed in trying to convince Dr Mpofu to comply with the rules and respect the honourable members of parliament.

However, Mr Kurotwi had accused the Home Affairs Minister of having attempted to extort $10 million from him adding the government lost billions of dollars through illicit deals.

Mr Kurotwi additionally accused Dr Mpofu and former ZMDC board chairman Mr Goodwills Masimirembwa of paying Harare lawyer Farai Mutamangira $300 000 for services not rendered.
