Lands, Agriculture and Rural Development Minister, Perrance Shiri has defended supporters and government officials who grabbed Tongaat Hullet land two years ago.

Addressing party supporters at a rally in Chiredzi last week Shiri said those who invaded Tongaat Hullet plots were merely exercising their rights as sons and daughters of the soil.

Former President Robert spoke against the continued occupation of Tongaat Hullet land when he visited the sugar producing giant last year.

“There is nothing wrong with the occupation of Tongaat Hullet land. We fought for the liberation of this country- to be precise, the war was about taking back our land that had been taken from us by white settlers.

As we have always said, there is no going back on the land issue,”declared Shiri in typical military style.
